External water cooling for stationary use

When the virtual battles heat up or computationally intensive renderings push your system to the limit, the COMMODORE ORION 17 equipped with RTX 4080 and 4090 unlocks a new level of cooling performance with the optional external COMMODORE Aquaris water cooling system.

Located at the back of the notebook are two magnetic, self-sealing connectors for attaching the 650 mm long and 9 mm thick black sleeved tubes. The included cooling liquid is pumped from the Aquaris’ water reservoir through a cooling pipe that integrates with the ORION 17’s existing air cooling heatpipes.

This setup significantly enhances the notebook’s internal air cooling, resulting in dramatically reduced surface and component temperatures, and consequently, lower fan noise. Alternatively, the extra cooling power can be used to extract the maximum performance from the system for gaming or rendering tasks.

Weighing 1.39 kg and with relatively compact dimensions of 203 x 75 x 186 mm, the Aquaris water cooling system can be transported occasionally. However, because the notebook and cooling box need to be carefully emptied before transport, this setup is primarily designed for stationary use at a desk.

keyboard

Despite its compact footprint of 34.2 x 24.5 cm, the 15.3-inch Linux laptop integrates a fully-sized, quiet keyboard equipped with a four-column number pad and large arrow keys in offset position for better ergonomics. The glass precision touchpad measures 12.3 x 7.8 cm and has a pleasantly smooth surface for convenient navigation on the go.

Intel Core i9-14900HX with 24 cores!

The high-end Intel Core i9-14900HX processor is specified with a standard TDP of 55 watts, but like all high-performance CPUs, it requires exceeding this value to unlock its full potential. This is where the distinction in performance truly emerges, heavily influenced by the quality of the laptop’s cooling system.
Ultra-thin notebooks often struggle to sustain high performance levels over extended periods due to their limited cooling capabilities, achieving peak performance only momentarily before throttling down. In contrast, the ORION 17 is engineered with a robust cooling system that can consistently draw up to 100 watts of power. When equipped with the optional Aquaris water cooling system, this capability increases to an impressive 125 watts.
This advanced cooling solution enables the ORION 17 to maintain outstanding performance levels consistently, whether for intensive content creation tasks or high-demand gaming sessions. As a result, users can enjoy the benefits of a high-end processor without compromising on sustained performance, making the ORION 17 a superior choice for those who require reliable, long-lasting computing power.

Fast NVIDIA graphics for work & play!

Is the ORION 17 – Gen6 the fastest Linux gaming laptop on the market? It just might be. This powerhouse integrates the highly efficient RTX 40 graphics cards specifically designed for notebooks. However, that’s just the beginning. While NVIDIA offers a wide range of performance levels (referred to as Total Graphics Power, or TGP), the ORION 17 exclusively uses the highest-performing versions.
At the pinnacle of this lineup is the GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop, a technical marvel with a TGP of up to 175 watts. This makes it the fastest laptop GPU available, outperforming its predecessor, the RTX 3080 Ti, by approximately 50%. In terms of efficiency, the RTX 4090 Laptop outshines similarly powerful desktop graphics cards, including the new GeForce RTX 4070 Ti (285 watts) and the previous generation’s top model, the RTX 3090 (350 watts), which consume 63% to 100% more power for comparable performance.
The GeForce RTX 4080 is equally impressive. With 12 GB of GDDR6 graphics memory and similar power consumption, it is about 20% behind the mobile top-tier RTX 4090, yet still about 30% ahead of the 3080 Ti Laptop and approximately 50% ahead of its direct predecessor, the RTX 3080.
For a more affordable but still powerful entry point, the GeForce RTX 4060 and RTX 4070 are excellent choices. Each features 8 GB of GDDR6 graphics memory and a lower power consumption of up to 140 watts. Thanks to the efficient cooling system with six heat pipes, these models can run cooler and quieter, providing solid performance reserves with the help of DLSS technology.
